Each species of lumber has its own unique beauty within the grain.
A wood with a more flared and curvy grain will draw the eye to the blade. Softwoods do not have pores, so their appearance can have contrasting colors between springwood & summerwood growth.
A wood grain with a more subtle and straight look draws the eye to the detail of the sword itself. Hardwood grains used for swords are generally less wavy, denser, scratch proof & dent resistant.
